Over this past weekend, I got sad terrible news saying one of the independent dry herb store, Gin Herb located in the corner between Ord and North Spring St. in Chinatown had to close down. According to what I’ve heard the owner has died and the merchandise in the store had to be sold immediately.
Crowds of people from all over swarm into the store and bought what they could find from the clearance sale. And from what I’ve heard the lines were massive and people waited hours before they could check out of the store with their goods.
Although the nature of the owner’s death is unclear, it is quite tragic for me to hear about her sudden passing. Yes, the owner was a woman, named Wing and has been the prime figure in the store, (since she’s been the main person I’ve seen working when I visited the store prior to this event). From what I remember, she’s always been a warm and thoughtful person when she interacts with her customers. She would make helpful recommendations and suggestions for her customer’s situations. And as she spoke to each of her customers and understood them better, her conversation with them would lead them to reveal pieces of themselves to her and vise-versa and would digress a bit only to leave her and her customers satisfied with their discussion.
Her presence and her store was a part which help contributed to the larger part of Chinatown and it will be greatly missed.
